The space shooter Star Wars: Squadrons has released a new trailer for the Gamescom 2020. It shows the sequence of a single-player mission for the first time – and the story is explained a little more precisely. Find out what it’s about here.

How do the missions work? In the new gameplay, you can see a mission of the empire going through called “Behind Enemy Lines”. As a pilot, you have to complete various tasks one after the other:

  • Destroys the defenses of an enemy space cruiser
  • Secures a transport ship that was apparently captured there
  • Escort it out of the combat area and defend it against the incoming fleet.

The process is – similar to that in the older Star Wars games, in which you could already take on the role of a pilot.

What is Star Wars: Squadrons? Squadrons will be a space shooter in which you sit in the first-person perspective in the cockpit of a spaceship and fight against other ships there. You can play two pilots: one Starwars figure from the new republic and one from the empire.

The space battles themselves are inspired by World War II and are made even more immersive by the first-person perspective. The shooter should be completely playable in virtual reality, which goes particularly well with the cockpit view.

You will also have the opportunity to tinker with your ships and create your own tie-fighters or X-wings. This is one of the features that you will really like.

Squadrons is set based on the events of Episode 6: Return of the Jedi and deals with the conflict between the new republic and the “shadowy” empire.

Star Wars: Squadrons will be released on October 2, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. EA has already shown the first gameplay for the actual space battles from Star Wars: Squadrons, where you play against other players in a 5 vs 5.
