The word “Ewok” is never actually said in the Star Wars, Return of the Jedi Movie. It only appears in the ending credits. The Ewok are named after the Miwok, a Native American tribe, indigenous to the Redwood forest where the Endor scenes were filmed. The name also is a pun on the syllables of Wookie backwards.
