In May 2009, retired teacher Ron Sveden, who had been fighting emphysema for months was shocked when doctors told him there was a PEA plant growing in his lung. The Massachusetts resident had been battling emphysema for months when his condition deteriorated.
Sveden was expecting a cancer diagnosis when X-rays revealed the growth in his lung. Doctors speculated that Ron had eaten a pea that ‘went down the wrong way’ during a meal and ended up in his lung, and then sprouted leaves growing to about 1/2 an inch.
